Orchha - Orchha has a really interesting past. Today, it is one of the most visited pilgrimage spots in Madhya Pradesh. This small historic town sits peacefully on the banks of the Betwa River and is known for its beautiful temples and old monuments. While exploring Orchha, don’t miss the royal cenotaphs of the former rulers. Other places of interest in Orchha are - Laxmi Narayan Temple, Ram Raja Temple, Chaturbhuj Temple, and the grand Jahangir Mahal. All these are the main highlights with their impressive architecture.
Kanha National Park - A lesser-known wildlife gem of Madhya Pradesh is Kanha National Park. Located in the Mandla and Balaghat districts, Kanha is also known to be the inspiration for ‘The Jungle Book’ after Pench National Park. Jeep safaris are conducted in the morning and evening hours by the forest department. The ideal time to visit Kanha National Park is from November to March. The national park is popular for the population of Barasingha, also known as swamp deer.
Tamia - Tamia is a quiet and lesser-known hill station located close to Pachmarhi, the popular hill station in Madhya Pradesh. It’s still untouched by heavy tourism, which makes it pristine and an ideal place to find solace. The place is full of green valleys, misty views, and scenic spots that feel fresh and relaxing. One of the main highlights here is Tamia Hills, where you can enjoy wide, stunning views of the Satpura Range. You can also explore small tribal villages and the Chhota Mahadeo Cave.
Mitawali, Padavali & Bateshwar - The temple structures of the Mitawali, Padavali, and Bateshwar Group of Temples are a mini version of Khajuraho. This group of temples are impressive in their own way. Located near Gwalior, this group of sites is perfect for anyone who enjoys history and architecture. Start with Mitawali Temple, which is believed to have inspired the design of the Indian Parliament House. At Padavali Fort, you’ll find beautifully carved temples inside the fort complex, full of detailed artwork. Finally, in the Bateshwar Group of Temples, there are more than 200 small temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu.
Patalkot - Patalkot is one of those hidden and untouched places in Madhya Pradesh. Often called the “village from the Netherworld,” it surprises you with its natural beauty. Not many people knew about Patalkot until a few years ago, which is why it still feels offbeat and less crowded. The area is mainly home to tribal communities like the Gonds and the Bharias.
